Angel Packs is a food initiative started in 2007 to support East students who do not have access to nutritious meals after they leave school on Friday. The program has grown considerably in the last several years. Numerous students pick up free non-perishable nutritious meals and fresh fruit for their families each week through the program. We also host an East Pantry once a month for our families to stock their kitchens with both fresh and non-perishable food. Volunteers provide delivery to those families who need it.
The Angel Packs Program typically gives away 60 bags of food per month. In 2016-17 we gave away a total of 392 bags of food! Started in 2012, the East Pantry has seen steady growth. It went from serving 48 families in 2013-14 to 260 families in 2016-17. The Angel Packs Program and the East Pantry are partnered with the Food Bank of the Rockies, and have been supported by funds from the Rose Women's Organization, CoBiz, 9CaresColorado Shares, the Empty Bowls Project organized by the East student organization NAHS (National Arts Honors Society) and EAFAF. It has also benefited from in-kind food donations from Sprouts, Denver School Lunch, Graland Country Day School, Red Mango, Shamrock Foods, Fresh Harvest Food Bank, GrowHaus and student sponsored food drives. The student-run Angel Packs Club volunteers 6 hours each month to assemble bags and volunteer at the Food Bank of the Rockies. In 2016-17, we volunteered a total of 294 hours at FBR!
